Affordable Housing Latest
Construction of the new affordable housing scheme in Partridge Close, off Barkham Close is nearing completion and if you are interested in applying for one of these new homes, now is the time to act if you haven’t already registered.
In Buckinghamshire, high house prices often mean that people who have a strong local connection to a rural parish often can’t afford to buy or rent in the villages where they belong.
To address this issue many Parish Councils are establishing “Rural Exception Schemes” together with a housing association, which will build and manage the affordable homes. These schemes provide housing for local people in housing need and ensure that those homes remain affordable and available for local people in perpetuity.
The Partridge Close scheme, built purely for local people, was developed in response to a need established in the parish by a housing needs survey, conducted in 2004. The development comprises 12 properties:
FOR RENT
2 X 1 BEDROOM FLATS
4 X 2 BEDROOM HOUSES
FOR SHARED OWNERSHIP
2 X 1 BEDROOM FLATS
4 X 2 BEDROOM FLATS
Priority allocation of all 12 units will be given to people who have a strong local connection to the parish; this includes people who have lived in Cheddington for more than 3 years, those who have close family connections or employment in the parish.
This local allocation system is guaranteed by means of a legal agreement between AVDC and Hastoe Housing Association, which is building and will manage the scheme. Hastoe has more than 20 years experience in developing rural communities and manages more than 4,000 affordable homes across the South of England.
