Scout Group Opening Second Beaver Colony

Scout Group Opening Second Beaver Colony

Due to the ever increasing numbers on the waiting list, Cheddington Scout Group is opening a second beaver colony from September 2011. When the colony opens, we will be welcoming 22 new boys and girls into the group along with 7 new leaders. Most of the young people would never have had the opportunity to join the scout group without the spaces provided by the second colony.

The new colony will be closely linked with the existing one, running the same programme at each meeting but on a different evening. Each colony will have its own leader team with Lindsay Parkinson continuing in overall charge. The two colonies will be known as Endeavour and Discovery.

The Scout Group carried out a presentation to the local school raising awareness of scouting in Cheddington and followed it up with an open evening at the Scout Hut. Over 30 e_xpressions of interest were made by families in the area from these events, many of whom will be starting with the new Colony immediately, other will have to wait until their 6th birthday. The scout group is extremely grateful to the support given by Cheddington Combined School and the County Development Officer.

With the new colony, the Scout Group will now have over 100 members and is hoping to continue to grow as the beavers move up to cubs over the next two years.

If anyone wants to join the group or put their name on the waiting list, please contact Ian Hale on gsl@cheddingtonscouts.org.
