Two Golds for Cheddington

Tai Chi Gold MedalsCatherine Birkinhead regularly teaches Tai Chi classes at Cheddington village hall, and recently she took part in The London Tai Chi Chuan Championships, and came away with two gold medals.

Her first winning category was for Wudang Style Open Hand Form and her second category was for Wudang style Sabre Form.

She was the only female competing in her categories so she was extremely pleased with her results. Catherine is hoping to inspire more women to take up the Wudang style of Tai Chi training, and encourage more women to compete in the future. Competition is a great way to improve your practice of this ancient martial art. You learn so much about yourself as well as from watching other styles and observing other competitor performances.

Catherine trained in Yang style Tai Chi for over ten years before turning to the Wudang Style 2 years ago when she started going to classes with Charlie Glasser of Chiltern Tai Chi. When Charlie moved to Thailand in October 2012, Catherine took over the classes at Cheddington village hall.

Catherine runs classes on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. See the village website under "Organisations" headings, for more details.
