Parish Council Elections
Parish Councillors are elected every four years, the next election will be in May 2011.
A Parish Councillor must be over 21 years of age, a local government elector of the parish or, for 12 months occupied land or property in the parish, or has for 12 months resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it, or, for 12 months, had is principal place of work in that area.
Should a casual vacancy occur between elections, the parish council is required to declare the vacancy forthwith, there will be an election if 10 electors call for one, otherwise the Council is required to fill the vacancy through co-option.
Government proposals for Quality Parish Councils, which would have access to more powers and funding, include a requirement that all Councillors are elected rather than co-opted.
Anyone who might be interested in becoming a member of Cheddington Parish Council at the next election should contact the Clerk who will provide further information.
