Cheddington Residents' Association

The Cheddington Residents' Association was set up in 1968 to represent the interests of the residents of Cheddington and to foster good public relations and encourage social activities in conjunction with other organisations in the area.

The Residents' Association is for the whole village, not just the committee members, and we welcome any input you may have. If there are any issues that you would like to raise, please feel free to contact any of the committee members (addresses and telephone numbers are listed below). Alternatively, you will be welcome at one of our monthly meetings. These are held every second Wednesday of the month, except August and December, at 8pm in the Methodist Schoolroom unless otherwise advised.

The Residents' Association's main role has become that of communication, providing a Newsletter (published monthly except for January and August) and delivered to every house free of charge, now over 800 copies. We are proud of our Newsletter and rightfully so as it provides a focus to life in Cheddington that is lacking in many similar villages. The Newsletter keeps the village abreast of current issues and aware of upcoming events as well as providing useful advertising for local trades and services. Every two years the Association produces a village guide that summarises all the useful contact information that is relevant to villagers. The Newsletter is mainly funded by advertising, backed up with profits from the now well-established Craft Fairs and Quiz Night, which also fund production of the Village Guide.

The Craft Fairs are held each November in the Village Hall. They continue to increase in popularity, both with visitors and the stallholders, who appreciate the warm welcome they always receive in Cheddington. Our Quiz Night is held annually and the sub-committee work hard to ensure that it is both challenging and fun – a good night out.

We do on occasion find ourselves with a surplus of funds and these have been put to good use in recent years on various initiatives that are of benefit to the village as a whole. These include our twice-yearly litter picks – we buy all helpers a well-deserved drink at the end of the morning courtesy of The Old Swan, and more recently planting of bulbs at various village locations.

On a more serious note, the Residents' Association can be a useful pressure group for issues that may affect some or all the residents of Cheddington. There are times when official local government organisations such as the Parish, District and County Councils need the extra input that a formal residents' committee can provide. The Residents' Association can also act as a point of liaison for these organisations and a conduit for information via the Newsletter and the Village Guide.

Our AGM is held in May of each year. If you are considering joining the committee, or just want to come along and hear about what we've done throughout the year, you will be most welcome to attend.

Our next event is a Quiz Night on Saturday 11th September 2010 at Cheddington Village Hall starting at 7:45 tickets can be obtained from Masons stores or Lesley Shepheard 661849. This will be followed by the Rock for Heros concert featuring local band The Rock Factor on 2nd October 8pm in the Village Hall. Tickets are available from Masons Stores.
