Royal British Legion - Ivinghoe & Pitstone Branch

The Royal British Legion is Britain's leading ex-service charity protecting the interests, welfare and memory of British ex-Service people, their families and dependants since 1921.

Some 11 million people of all ages are eligible to approach the Legion for support on many issues including welfare, pensions, vocational assessment, job retraining, counselling and much more.

All its work is funded through the Poppy Appeal and the donations and sponsorship of individuals, groups and businesses, which support its aims. In carrying out its work the Legion spends more than £54 million each year.

The Legion is one of the largest membership organisations in the UK with 550,000 members and more than 4,000 branches in the UK and overseas. Its staff, members and volunteers respond to over 300,000 calls for help each year.

The nation expresses its unequivocal support for the work of the Legion through its generous support for the Poppy Appeal raising in excess of £20 million, which goes towards vital welfare work.

The Ivinghoe & Pitstone Branch meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in The Bell, Pitstone – unless otherwise arranged. Official business usually takes about 30 minutes, after which those remaining spend time socialising and this always includes a great deal of reminiscing!

During the year a few social and fund raising events are held. New and prospective members are always welcome and anyone interested in becoming a member, or supporting the Legion in any way, should contact -

Branch Chairman, Owen Wynne, Stone House, Church Rd., Ivinghoe 01296 668336 or
Branch Secretary, Margaret Johnson, 6 Luke's Lea, Marsworth, Tring HP23 4NH 01296 661280

Cheddington has its own Poppy Appeal Organiser, Keith Malcolm (phone 01296 661419), and he welcomes any offer of support for the annual door-to-door collection.
